Cyber Bribe Case Shocks Hyderabad

The Cyber Bribe case has created major discussion in Hyderabad after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two cybercrime police officers. The incident happened in the LB Nagar area under the Malkajgiri police commissionerate.
ACB officials caught two Armed Reserve Sub-Inspectors while they accepted a ₹1 lakh bribe. Investigators say the officers demanded money to give official favour in a cybercrime case. The action took place after a complaint from the affected person.
Authorities confirmed that both officers worked at the Cyber Crime Police Station in LB Nagar. Their arrest highlights strict action against corruption inside law enforcement agencies.
ACB Trap Operation In LB Nagar
ACB officers planned a trap after receiving the complaint. Investigators monitored the meeting between the accused officers and the complainant. The team carried out the operation near LB Nagar crossroads.
During the trap, one officer accepted the cash amount of ₹1 lakh. The ACB team immediately detained him and recovered the bribe money. Later, investigators arrested the second officer who allegedly demanded the payment.
Officials identified the accused as Pramod Goud and Jatavath Babu Naik, both serving as Armed Reserve Sub-Inspectors attached to the cybercrime police station.
According to investigators, the officers demanded the bribe to provide relief in a cybercrime case. They promised to avoid arrest and instead issue a legal notice to the accused person.
Why The Officers Demanded The Bribe
Investigators say the officers used their position to demand illegal money. They allegedly told the complainant that they would issue a notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita instead of making an arrest.
This legal notice allows a suspect to appear before police without immediate detention. In many cases, officers use it when arrest is not necessary.
However, the officers allegedly misused this process to demand money. The complainant decided to approach the Anti-Corruption Bureau after receiving the demand.
ACB officials then designed a trap to catch the officers while accepting the illegal payment.
Bribe Money Recovered During Raid
During the operation, ACB officers recovered the entire ₹1 lakh amount from the accused. Chemical tests later confirmed the presence of the trap powder on the officer’s hands.
This evidence proved that the officer handled the bribe money. Investigators documented the entire operation as part of the corruption case.
Officials later transported the accused officers for questioning. Authorities also collected documents and digital evidence related to the cybercrime investigation.
The ACB team prepared a detailed report and registered a case under corruption laws.
Officers Produced Before Special Court
After completing the initial investigation, officials produced both officers before the special court for ACB cases in Nampally.
The court will examine the evidence presented by investigators. Judicial authorities will also decide further legal proceedings.
ACB officials confirmed that the investigation continues. Authorities plan to examine communication records and other possible evidence related to the case.
The agency will also check if similar complaints exist against the officers.
Cybercrime Units Under Public Attention
Cybercrime police units play an important role in handling digital fraud cases. Hyderabad has seen a rise in cyber fraud incidents in recent years.
Police departments created dedicated cybercrime units to investigate online scams and financial fraud. These units handle complaints related to digital payments, phishing, identity theft, and investment fraud.
However, incidents like the Cyber Bribe case raise concerns about integrity inside enforcement agencies. Authorities say strict action helps maintain public trust in policing systems.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau often conducts trap operations after receiving complaints from citizens. Such operations help expose illegal demands for bribes within government departments.
Government’s Anti-Corruption Efforts
The Telangana government has increased anti-corruption monitoring in recent years. The ACB conducts regular checks and encourages citizens to report illegal demands.
Officials say public cooperation helps identify corruption cases quickly. Citizens can submit complaints through helplines or official complaint systems.
Investigators also run awareness campaigns that encourage people to report bribery attempts. These efforts aim to create transparent governance across departments.
Authorities say the arrest of the two officers sends a clear message. Government agencies will not tolerate corruption in public service.
Investigation Continues
ACB officials continue to analyze evidence linked to the Cyber Bribe case. Investigators will examine call records and internal communications. They will also review case files handled by the accused officers.
If authorities discover additional violations, they may add more charges. The case may also reveal whether others participated in the bribery attempt.
For now, officials say the arrest reflects the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption. The investigation remains active and authorities expect further updates soon.
